Your company’s AI journey starts with people
We’re in the midst of an AI-driven technological revolution that will change the world as we know it. While uncertainty and concern about its impacts are understandable, we believe AI can be a vehicle for the advancement of humanity, enabling our limitless potential. This revolution is about how we augment artificial intelligence to support human intelligence.
We’re at a critical point where companies need to determine how they move forward with their approach to AI—including generative AI—in a responsible way that supports and empowers people while providing value for customers.
“Our greatest asset will always be our people,” says Natalie Richardson, director of Slalom’s future of work incubator, HabLab. “As we navigate this digital transformation, we need to keep their well-being at the core of our approach while viewing generative AI as a tool to support them in working more efficiently and effectively.”
So how can companies integrate AI into their business while taking care of their employees and creating a positive customer experience? It requires adopting a fiercely human approach, developing a clear understanding of the value you want to drive, and thinking holistically about your entire AI journey.
Today’s AI-driven technological revolution is progressing rapidly, changing how we learn, work, and live. It’s critical to take a human-centric approach. This means thinking beyond fundamental productivity gains, keeping people in the driver’s seat, and learning to take charge of the disruption in your industry.
To better understand the current environment, Slalom conducted a research study in 2023, examining the perspectives of 200 C-suite executives on AI and its impact. Our study found that an overwhelming 93% of companies are actively considering their AI-enabled transformation journey. Of those considering that transformation, 87% have already begun the AI adoption process.
However, only 8% of executives report directly engaging their employees to address potential concerns and apprehensions about AI adoption.
So, what does this tell us? While many executives have already begun integrating AI into their business, there’s a significant need to bring people along.
“As organizations capitalize on the productivity gains offered by generative AI, it’s crucial to leverage technology as an enabler, empowering employees and ensuring their well-being remains at the forefront,” says Richardson. “By striking this balance, organizations can create a harmonious ecosystem where productivity and humanity go hand in hand, driving sustainable success.”
No matter where you’re at in your transformation journey, now is the time to adopt a fiercely human approach to AI.
