This corner piece describes how you can help your people to spot the signs someone is experiencing problems with their mental health, support someone in need and signpost to information and professional support.
It can be difficult to see someone you know becoming unwell. But you don't need to be a mental health expert to help someone.
Small, everyday actions can make a big difference (e.g. taking time to ask someone how they are doing).

It is important when providing support that your organisation ensures it is accessible for everyone.
This may mean providing resources in different languages, larger font size, different coloured backgrounds and considering ethnicity, age, gender, disability etc.
Fulham FC Supporters Club case study
Fulham Supporters Trust’s annual fan survey identified the mental health of their fans (particularly young males) decreased during the COVID crisis when they couldn’t watch live games in person.
As a result, they partnered with the football club to create a ‘One Fulham’ campaign encouraging fans to see each other as a family that they can reach out to when feeling low.
Provide information on where people can be signposted for further support.
Ensure it is available across your organisation and consider how different groups of people will be able to access the information.
It is unlikely that your people will be mental health professionals which is why providing information for people to signpost to is essential. See the next page for a list of places to signpost to.
Provide links to mental health support on your website, intranet and other sources of information
This can be accessible by everyone including people external to the organisation such as spectators.
Examples include:
Signposting resources from our Mental Health Champions’ Toolkit.
Put up posters around the workplace, clubs, venues providing information
See ideas of where to put posters in “Champion Mental Health”.
Provide portable cards with key information about support
Produce credit card sized cards with key contact details of support which can be kept in wallets, pockets, purses, mobile phone cases etc.
You could include the following national information/help lines and add in ones in your local area.
